Hormone pellets consist of a small pellet about the size of a grain of rice being placed under the skin in the buttock area. Pellets are made from plant derived estrogen, plus testosterone and are made in a compounding pharmacy. They are called “bio, identical“ meaning more like your body. The estradiol and testosterone are made from adding to the plant derive substances in a lab and are still considered hormone replacement therapy. Therefore, they must be respected as hormone replacement therapy, and the same rules of who should or who should not have them apply. The unique feature is the type of delivery system. Testosterone is a very undervalued hormone to replace in menopause. It helps with sex drive and functioning, energy, memory, and muscle mass. Estradiol is the most valued hormone in hormone replacement therapy. It treats, hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, skin, texture, and sense of well-being.
